IPTG inducible expression of ∆9, ∆12, and ∆15 desaturases
It is a device that contains a promoter (BBa_R0010) and an RBS (BBa_B0034) for each of the three desaturase genes. When free fatty acid, for example, stearic acid (18:0) enters a cell, it is converted into oleic acid (18:1∆9) by ∆9 desaturase, then to linoleic acid (18:2∆9,12) by ∆12 desaturase and finally to alpha-linolenic acid, ALA (18:3∆9,12,15) by ∆15 desaturase(Figure 1). This device is designated to express in the presence of IPTG.
